📩 AI Features for Smarter Emailing in Gmail

This project added smart AI tools to Gmail that help users summarize emails and write replies faster. The goal: help busy people handle email overload without losing control or clarity.

Email takes up a lot of time—especially long threads and writing replies. AI can help, but it has to be smart, clear, and easy to trust. We needed to add AI features that feel natural, not intrusive.

We focused on real-world email habits, researched user needs, and built tools that speed things up while keeping users in charge.

We looked at other smart email tools and talked to users. Key insights? People want:
Transparency—clearly see what the AI is doing.
Control—be able to tweak or turn off AI suggestions.
Seamless design—features that don’t mess up the Gmail flow.

🎨 Define

We built a simple design system that fit right into Gmail’s existing look. Labels and toggles made it easy for users to see or edit AI suggestions when they wanted to.

💡 Design

We designed and tested features like:
✍️ Help Me Write – Turn a short prompt into a full email.
💡 Smart Compose – Suggest sentence completions while typing.
⚡ Smart Reply – One-click replies based on the message.
📌 AI Summaries – Condense long threads into the key points.

Everything was editable and optional—users stay in control.
