Bank AI

AI-Enhanced Banking Dashboard

THE PROBLEM

Traditional banking apps overwhelm users with complex data and interfaces. We needed to design something that delivered intelligent financial insights without the friction making banking smarter, not harder.

The focus: clarity, control, and meaningful insights.

MAKE OF THE TEAM

solo project, user research and ideation to prototyping and final design.

KEY GOAL

Design a clean, AI-enhanced mobile banking experience that feels friendly and intuitive, even for non-tech-savvy users.

User needs

Undestanding User Needs:

To better understand user needs and identify opportunities for smart, simplified banking, I began with a competitive analysis of top mobile banking apps including Monzo, Revolut, and Chime. I focused on how each handles user insights, budgeting tools, and AI features like transaction summaries or savings nudges.

From this, I mapped key gaps:

  • Many apps overloaded users with data and features without clear explanations

  • AI tools often felt hidden, passive, or overly technical

  • Emotional connection and trust-building were low, especially around money advice

To shape a more human-centered experience, I created a User Assumption Map to define who the user might be and what they could need from an AI-powered banking assistant.

This included assumptions around:

  • Comfort levels with digital banking

  • Desire for more control and clarity

  • Anxiety or confusion around spending and saving habits

These insights helped anchor my design direction: give users guidance,

not more noise.

Information Architecture & Experience Flows

I mapped a task-based information architecture, ensuring the app supported everyday decision-making without unnecessary complexity. The key flows I designed centered on:

  • Checking financial health at a glance

  • Receiving proactive, digestible suggestions (e.g., “Shift your bill date to avoid low balance”)

  • Reviewing personalized, AI- generated spending trends

I documented these in user journey maps, illustrating where AI could step in subtly  always in service of reducing friction or uncertainty.

BREAKING DOWM THE PROCESS

My Role

This was a self-initiated concept project where I led the entire design process—from research and competitive analysis to wireframing, prototyping, and UI design. I explored how AI could offer value without adding complexity, and crafted a mobile experience focused on clarity and trust.

Prototyping the System: Design Language & Interaction

The visual design was rooted in calmness and clarity — a soft yet confident system, designed to reduce cognitive load and increase trust. I created a modular design system with accessible colors, clear hierarchy, and interaction patterns optimized for mobile.

I built interactive prototypes using Figma to simulate live data updates, conversational prompts, and microinteractions for AI insights. Each prototype was tested with a small peer group for feedback on tone, clarity, and ease of use.

Ethical Design Considerations

As AI becomes more integrated into financial tools, transparency matters. I included elements like:

  • “Why am I seeing this?” links for AI suggestions

  • Controls to adjust how often insights appear

  • Friendly, human-centered microcopy to build trust and reduce stress

In summary, here’s how I designed a smarter, simpler banking experience

Problem

Traditional banking apps overwhelm users with complex data and interfaces. We needed to design something that delivered intelligent financial insights without the friction—making banking smarter, not harder.

Goal

Design a clean, AI-enhanced mobile banking experience that feels friendly and intuitive, even for non-tech-savvy users. The focus: clarity, control, and meaningful insights.

Solution

We built a mobile app powered by helpful AI features like spending predictions, smart savings tips, and contextual insights—all wrapped in a calming, easy-to-use interface. Every interaction was designed to feel thoughtful and human

Innovation

AI isn’t just in the background—it’s conversational, helpful, and non-intrusive. The app learns your patterns, then offers micro-tips and nudges that actually make sense. The design system supports modular growth while maintaining clarity and accessibility.

Impact

Early feedback showed increased user trust and better day-to-day money awareness. Testers reported feeling “in control” of their finances, without needing to decode jargon or dig through dashboards.

LESSONS LEARNED

Balancing AI with User Control

Balancing AI-powered features with user control is key—people appreciate smart tools but want to feel in charge. Transparency and adjustable settings help build that trust. Keeping the design simple and intuitive prevents users from feeling overwhelmed, even as advanced technology runs behind the scenes. Ethical considerations are essential when dealing with sensitive financial data; empathy, clear communication, and respect for privacy must guide every decision. Finally, AI-driven experiences require ongoing iteration and user feedback to ensure they remain relevant and effective over time.
